GLOBAL KNIGHTS FOUNDATION
In a nation where elders are the heartbeats of our communities, Global Knights Foundation crafts programmes that empower Nigeria’s seniors to live with dignity and joy. Inspired by the selfless love of parents—celebrated during our Executive Director, Ngozi John-Uyah’s 2023 NTA appearance for the Global Day of Parent,we ensure older persons have access to quality healthcare, safe mobility, nourishing meals, and heartfelt companionship. Our work is a promise: to honor the resilience of those who built our today while shaping a brighter tomorrow.

Our programmes, rooted in advocacy and action, deliver practical solutions to ensure every senior thrives. As Ngozi John-Uyah shared on NTA, “Just as parents nurture our future, we must cradle our elders’ present.”

What We Aim to Achieve

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

The health and wellbeing of older persons are at the heart of our vision and mission. We recognise that access to quality healthcare and supportive environments is critical for aging with dignity. Our Health and Wellbeing programme focuses on:
  • Advocacy for Quality Healthcare: We champion the right of every older person to access affordable, high-quality healthcare services. By collaborating with healthcare providers, policymakers, and community organisations, we work to ensure that medical care is accessible, equitable, and tailored to the specific needs of the elderly, such as managing chronic conditions and age-related ailments.

  • Promoting a Quality Life: Beyond medical care, we advocate for environments that support the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of older persons. This includes safe living conditions, access to recreational activities, and mental health resources to combat issues like depression and loneliness.

  • Community Health Initiatives: We organise health workshops, free medical screenings, and wellness programs to empower the elderly with knowledge and resources to maintain their health. These initiatives also foster a sense of community, encouraging older persons to engage actively in their health management.

Our goal is to ensure that every older person has an opportunity to live a healthy, fulfilling life, with access to the care and support they deserve.

TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT

Mobility is a significant challenge for many elderly individuals, often limiting their independence and access to essential services. Our Transportation Support Programme is dedicated to breaking down these barriers by:
    • Advocating for Accessible Transportation: We work with local governments, transportation authorities, and private organisations to develop and promote transportation options that cater to the unique needs of older persons. This includes accessible vehicles, senior-friendly public transport systems, and affordable ride-sharing services.

    • Volunteer Driver Programs: Through our network of volunteers, we provide safe and reliable transportation services for elderly individuals to attend medical appointments, social events, or run errands. This service helps reduce isolation and ensures that mobility challenges do not hinder their quality of life.

    • Community-Based Solutions: We partner with communities to create localised transportation solutions, such as shuttle services or subsidized transport schemes, to meet the specific needs of elderly residents in both urban and rural areas.

NUTRITION

Proper nutrition is vital for the health and vitality of of everybody, but more so, for older persons. Our Nutrition programme focuses on ensuring that elderly individuals have access to balanced, healthy meals that align with their dietary needs and preferences. Key components of this programme include:
  • Meal Preparation and Delivery Services: We coordinate meal preparation and delivery programs to provide nutritious, tailored meals to elderly individuals, particularly those with dietary restrictions due to medical conditions such as diabetes or hypertension.

  • Nutrition Education: We offer workshops and resources to educate older persons and their caregivers about the importance of balanced diets, portion control, and healthy eating habits. These programs aim to empower the elderly to make informed choices about their nutrition.

  • Community Dining Programmes: To foster social connections, we organize communal dining events where elderly individuals can enjoy meals together, share stories, and build meaningful relationships. These initiatives help combat loneliness while promoting healthy eating.

Our Nutrition programme ensures that older persons receive the nourishment they need to thrive.

ADVOCACY FOR THE RIGHT POLICIES

Systemic change is essential to improving the lives of older persons, and our Advocacy for the Right Policies program is dedicated to driving impactful policy reforms. We work tirelessly to:
  • Champion the Rights of Older Persons: We advocate for policies that protect the dignity, autonomy, and rights of the elderly. This includes pushing for legislation that ensures access to quality healthcare, safe living conditions, and social protections for older persons.

  • Engage with Policymakers: We collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to influence policies that address the needs of aging populations. Our advocacy efforts focus on creating an enabling environment where older persons can live with respect and security.

  • Raise Public Awareness: Through campaigns, roundtable discussions, and community events, we highlight the challenges faced by older persons and promote a culture of care, compassion, and inclusion. For instance, our participation in the United Nations International Day of Older Persons (UNIDOP) 2022 included a roundtable discussion on the resilience of older persons in a changing world, showcasing our commitment to amplifying their voices.

By advocating for the right policies, we aim to create a society where older persons are valued, supported, and empowered to live their best lives.
